About Thornaby Bowls Club

Based in Littleboy Park, the bowling club has a long history going back to 1931. The park was donated to the people of Thornaby by the Littleboy family in memory of their son who lost his life in the First World War. The bowls club has competed in the local leagues ever since 1931 with just a short break during WW2 but in 1998 a deal was struck with Stockton Borough Council to lease the club premises giving the members the opportunity to manage it themselves. The result is that the bowls green is among the best in the area and the clubhouse has been developed into a very comprehensive facility. Along with some grant money, the members have invested nearly £50000 in refurbishment and new buildings. A dedicated team of people work all year on the green, its surrounds and the clubhouse.
With the new season due to start at the end of April, people of any age are welcome to come and have a go. The club is open on most afternoons during the season from 1.30 pm and evenings from 6.00 pm but special free sessions are run on Monday afternoons for those who wish to try out green bowling for the first time and special coaching sessions are available upon request. Equipment is provided and at this time the only essential is flat-soled shoes. Spectators too are always welcome. So man or woman, young or not so young, why not call in and give it a try. Ask for Brian or Doug or John or call 01642591894.
